It's not a wolf it's a dog. Sometimes dog sleds have to leave exausted dogs not to slow another dogs. Sometimes left dogs enter wolf packs, sometimes they are killed by diffferent tundra animals. It's a very severe place, that's why "north" is called "Sever" on russian...
